Research Paper Topics

Whether you are in your first semester or attending graduate school, you will need to choose research paper topics to complete your studies. Often times, many people become frustrated when choosing a subject for their research paper topics. Some times, your professor will assign your research paper topics, sparing you the grief and agony of painstakingly mulling over the issue yourself. However, if you are not so fortunate, here are some tips that will help your decision for research paper topics to be a fulfilling and rewarding one.

If you are new to brainstorming, here is an exercise that will help get your creative juices flowing and give you a list of research paper topics. The exercise is called, "Freewriting". Freewriting is an assignment where you set a timer for about 15-30 minutes, and as soon as the timer begins to click, you begin to write. The trick to a Freewriting experiment is that once you start writing, you don't stop until the timer buzzes. That's right- you don't lift your pencil once. You just continue to flow with whatever theme or stream of thoughts that are currently running from the wires of your brain, down into your hand and out onto the paper. When your Freewriting experiment is finished, you will be amazed at how many potential topics will be staring you in the face. Don't worry either about spelling, penmanship, grammar, or even if your sentences contain complete thoughts. Your Freewriting experiment simply sirs up your creativity and is a great place to begin with when looking for research paper topics.

The next wonderful activity that will have you creating your own research paper topics in no time at all is Brainstorming. Brainstorming is like Freewriting; only it is a bit more focused. Instead of just free flowing your thoughts, Brainstorming uses maps and clusters. You will start with a topic, then brainstorm categories that relate to the topic. When you are through, you will have plenty of research paper topics to choose from.
